What is Dry Skin?
During menopause, hormonal changes, particularly the decline in estrogen levels, can significantly affect the skin’s ability to retain moisture. As a result, many women experience dry skin, which can be exacerbated by living in dry or hot climates. This dryness can manifest as flakiness, tightness, itching, and a dull complexion.
Hormonal Changes: Estrogen plays a vital role in maintaining skin hydration by promoting the production of natural oils and maintaining the skin’s barrier function. As estrogen levels drop during menopause, the skin produces less oil, leading to increased dryness.
Reduced Collagen Production: Menopause also leads to a decrease in collagen production, which affects the skin’s elasticity and ability to retain moisture.
Environmental Factors: Living in dry, hot areas can further strip the skin of moisture, making it more challenging to keep the skin hydrated.
What can you do?
